Admin Post: Rates

As part of Dryad Counseling’s on-going commitment to keeping clients informed, DC would like to talk about session rates. What we charge per session is based around the number of minutes included in procedure codes. These codes are what we submit to insurance plans to be paid for the session. For clients whose plans are directly billed, you do not need to worry about the specific codes. We take care of that for you.

Clients who are self pay or using out of network benefits may find knowing these to be helpful to plan for the cost of session. This is also helpful to know for some plans that require a superbill or require you to fill out a form to be reimbursed for sessions.

The rates and codes are as follows

  • 90791 - Initial Evaluation (16 minutes minimum): $125

  • 90837-Psychotherapy (53-60 minutes): $125

  • 90834 - Psychotherapy (38-52 minutes): $100

  • 90832 - Psychotherapy (16-37 minutes): $75

It is Dryad Counseling’s policy to limit new clients to 90791 and 90837 session rates. This limitation is in place because when clients first start therapy, there are a lot of items to cover. We have found that shorter sessions at the start of the therapeutic experience have slightly lower positive outcomes for clients. After this initial period, shorter sessions can be an option if there is a time constraint or we find that the shorter sessions fit better with a client’s needs.

The way DC schedules sessions are generally in 15 minute increments. As an example, if you meet with your counselor for 45 minutes, it would be $100. A 30 minute session is $75. DC does not charge for sessions lasting less than 16 minutes. Why? There is no billable code for it. If we did charge for it, it would be 100% on the client and that is not aligned with DC’s approach to therapy.

You may have seen that other practices charge more for the initial session, but DC does not. We have found that the cost difference can be a barrier for clients and made the choice to keep the cost the same so clients don’t have to worry about higher initial cost to access therapy.

Why are we sharing these with you?

In the United States, there is an act in place to help patients/clients know how much a service or procedure will cost in case their insurance does not cover the service or if the client is not using insurance to pay for services. This act is called the “No Surprises Act” and was slated to begin back in 2022. DC has historically made an effort for our clients to know exactly how much as session will cost before the session takes place and truly believes in the client being as informed as possible when receiving care from DC.

If you are an established client or a new one looking into the cost of services, you can always reach out to DC via email to discuss financials at info@dryadcounseling.com
